What ToutWAF covers

ToutWAF is a complete WAAP with a suite of tools around it. Every function listed here exists in the product today, with its edition: free, or licence required. Some of them have not yet been tried in real conditions and carry a tag that says so. What is not built, withdrawn or not verified on real systems is listed at the bottom of this page.

EditionFree Included in every offer, including both free offers (Free and Free +)Pro and above Paid offers: visible in the console, locked without a licence. From Pro, unless Agency or Enterprise is shown
Not yet tried in real conditions Works in the product's tests, but has not yet been tried with the real service, system or equipment. The console shows the same note where you set the function up.

A function under licence stays visible in the console, locked and never hidden. Where a function has a free basis and an advanced part under licence, both are listed. When a paid licence ends: 48 hours of grace, 48 hours of read-only, then WAF protection is switched off (traffic keeps flowing, unprotected) until renewal.

  • Compatibility check before any change: systems tested, expected or unsupported, from the installer's own dataFree
  • Environment check: busy ports, web servers that restart at boot, closed firewall, with the cause and the actionFree
  • All-in-one install: the local data plane enrols itself, nothing to type afterwardsFree
  • Apache or Nginx as the origin: the Origin server card examines it and writes the files for the real visitor address and HTTPS; ToutWAF never changes your serverFree
  • Published matrix of installation modes: tested, partial, not tested or unsupportedFree
  • All-in-one image for Docker Compose (tested on Linux amd64) and a Helm chart, supplied with your distributionFree
  • Standalone data plane driven by a YAML file with hot reload; offline installation from a local archiveFree
  • Updates from the console: choice of channel (dev for now, as no stable version exists yet), release notes, Update now with progress and automatic rollbackFree
  • Host firewall opened by the installer when firewalld or ufw is active; a card in Settings to check and open portsFree
  • First-run wizard with technology detection that shows the layers found, a confidence level and the evidenceFree

What is not in this release

ToutWAF says what it does not do yet, or has not been able to verify, so that you do not find out in production. The details and the full list of known limits are in the documentation.

Not built

Not built yet

  • HTTP/3: the option is ignored and UDP port 443 stays closed
  • A clustered control plane: one active console, plus a standby console that you promote by hand
  • PostgreSQL: the console uses SQLite (ClickHouse is optional for events)
  • AsyncAPI enforcement, custom DLP patterns, ECH, post-quantum key exchange, PKCS#11 and KMS key storage
  • Detection of content scraping and stock hoarding, and leaked-password checks
Partial

Preview or partial

  • Collective defence network: withdrawn from this version (no menu, no page, no licence line). It was only a local preview, and nothing was ever sent anywhere
  • Terraform: an API client only, without provider resources; the Kubernetes operator is CRDs and a skeleton
  • Antivirus: a first version exists (EICAR, SHA-256 signatures from free lists, no anti-ransomware) but it is offered in no plan for now; it does not replace a complete antivirus
  • Rate-limit counters, bans and baselines are kept per node, not shared between nodes
  • Envoy and HAProxy call an HTTP decision endpoint: no gRPC ext_authz and no SPOE agent
Unverified

Not verified on real systems

  • A clean installation on every listed system, and the antivirus agent on Windows, macOS and arm64: no real Windows, macOS or arm64 hardware was used, only containers and emulation
  • A real ToutPanel: the link and the web stack installation were tried against stand-ins
  • Routers and firewalls, kernel blocking and a virtual address: the files for OPNsense and pfSense were never tried on a real router, the kernel helper never ran under a real systemd, and no real keepalived failover was tested
  • Real certificate authorities, SAML sign-in, SIEM and ticketing services, external CAPTCHA providers and a private language model server: tried against stand-ins
  • Mail gateway: the Postfix daemon never ran and no real mail was received or delivered. Standby console: tried between two local consoles only
By design

Not done, by design

  • ToutWAF never manages your DNS: it tells you what to create and checks it
  • ToutWAF handles no payment and no invoice: you bill your clients from the usage export
  • No white label: the ToutWAF brand stays on every page and report; a client's name and logo are added next to it
  • No certification is claimed (PCI DSS, ISO 27001, SOC 2, ANSSI CSPN): ToutWAF provides evidence, not attestations
  • The 10 languages were written with the help of AI and have not been reviewed by native speakers
